Taylor Bisbee
Taylor Bisbee and her friends were doing some base running. Suddenly eighth-grader Paris White collapsed.
One of White’s teammates dialed 911. But Bisbee was the one who immediately jumped into action and started performing CPR.
Minutes later, staff arrived on the scene with a defibrillator to get White’s heart beating again, An ambulance took White to Duke University Hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.
The experience has encouraged the fast-thinking Bisbee to pursue a career in medicine.
Liz Young
Liz Young heard a woman screaming for someone who knew CPR. She ran and found Debbie Lundstrom, age 59, collapsed on the floor.
Debbie Lundstrom husband was frantically attempting to perform CPR but was untrained. Liz Young too over and performed hands-only CPR and managed to resuscitate Debbie Lundstrom.
Debbie Lundstrom has no recollection of the incident but she is thankful that Liz Young was there to save her life.
Matthew Lickenbrock
Student Matthew Lickenbrock was driving to an evening class in April when he saw a flash of lightning that appeared to hit the engineering building where he was headed.
Pulling into the parking lot, he saw a young man face down on the ground. It was 23-year-old Sean Ferguson, a student who had been struck by lightning,
Ferguson wasn’t breathing or moving. Lickenbrock, 21, immediately went to work giving Hands-Only CPR to revive Ferguson. Lickenbrock detected a pulse and Ferguson was breathing by the time the ambulance arrived. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
Lickenbrock was thankful that he could help save Ferguson using CPR — which he had only learned just days before at an American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR training kiosk.
